Wandering Monks (Boulder, CO)
Originating in the socially sterile environment of the front range of Colorado, Wandering Monks is a musical entity consisting of rapper/producer McAD and his emcee partner Linguistory. The duo - who came together in 2009 - has worked tirelessly to create a unique brand of conscious underground hip hop that blends multiple genres yet maintains a distinct sound. A uniquefusion combining the creative juices of two very different minds that developed separately but established a contrast that works. McAD, a Midwest native, is the leader and founder of the long-standing Freedom Movement, a Boulder-based hip-hop group that has been soulfully addressing social and political issues for over a decade. McAD's production (who produced all but four of the 18 songs on the debut album) runs the gamut from straight-forward hip hop to reggae to funk/soul to even some Latin influences. Linguistory is a Colorado native whose lyrical style and complex rhyme patterns are steeped as much in literature as they are in popular music. The creative vibe the duo has developed over time has pushed them to make the best music of their careers.
To celebrate the completion of their first official album, the Wandering Monks will be showcasing their music at the legendary Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado Friday November 25th. With an incredible line up of Colorado's finest, the Monks stay committed to their vision of localization and sustainability, encouraging the Colorado community to do the same by supporting these amazing artists that represent the 303 with class and style. And for the fans that cannot wait until then a few of the songs from the album are available for streaming on wanderingmonksmusic.com.
The ReMINDers (Colorado Springs, CO)
They say true love is a beautiful thing. True love that results in hip-hop is a beautiful thing with a great soundtrack. The Reminders have been making music for a while now, both individually and together. In 2005, Big Samir began performing with Aja Black around the midwest, sharing similar views on life, music and religion, they decided to come together and work on a concept entitled The ReMINDers. The sound is best described as "soulful" awareness and positivity influence their lyrics, with a focus on harmonizing and bringing a message. After a two year break to raise their children, they are back with a powerful debut record "ReCollect" that will gain them a solid position in the music world.
Aja Black, born in Hollis Queens (New York), 25, sings and raps on the record while Big Samir, born in Brussels (Belgium), 27, occasionally flips back and forth from French to English with a dope bilingual flow. The Couple-Duo is very busy promoting positive vibes and great music for people of all ages in the world to enjoy. For the past couple of years, they have acquired much success by sharing stages with such artists as DeLaSoul, KRS 1, Dead Prez, Immortal Technique, Pharcyde, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and have also hit the road with Blackalicious and OneBeLo.
