The Hip Abduction
The Hip Abduction
Sometimes inspiration strikes from the immersion of living in a far away place. The view of the ocean. The sound of a rainforest at sunrise. The smell of an open-air market. The embrace of the wild human experience. However, maybe the nostalgia for a certain place might be attributed instead to a feeling, or a time, or even a person. Sometimes, inspiration stems from a place that everyone can relate to, but maybe no one's actually been. This is the music of The Hip Abduction, the vibrant St. Petersburg, FL-based collective that formed over a mutual appreciation for West African and early Jamaican reggae/dub music.

The Hip Abduction began through informal jam sessions and quickly coalesced into a sound that attracted national attention. For Gold Under the Glow, the band’s third full album releasing on March 11, 2016, THA engage an indie pop acumen alongside a highly emotive and roots driven sound. Recorded in Nashville, Gold Under the Glow was produced by Dabney Morris (Wild Cub) who is credited with incorporating synth-pop teeth into the band’s global foundation and summery vibe. It’s a smart blending of world pop and club aesthetics that appeals to both audiences.

The Hip Abduction featuring David New (lead vocals, guitar), Pat Klemawesch (kamale ngoni, guitar, vocals), Chris Powers (bass), Dave Johnson (baritone and tenor sax), Paul Chlapowski (keyboards), Matt Poynter (drums, vocals), and John Holt III (kamale ngoni, guitar, vocals) have shared stages with the likes of Ziggy Marley, Umphrey’s McGee, Thievery Corporation, 311, Dawes, Galactic, and .moe and has performed at Sunfest, Wanee Music Festival, Suwanee Hulaween, Orange Blossom Jamboree, Tropical Heatwave Music Festival, The BIG What? and more. The coming year promises national tour dates with exciting appearances at festivals including Shaky Knees, Slide Into Spring Fest and more. Fans should also be on the lookout for surf footage and travel photos from this Florida coastline collective.
Madaila
Madaila
Psych pop juggernaut Madaila is upbeat, synth-heavy, and catchy. Vocal skill and range are immediately apparent. But in the tradition of Prince and more recently Frank Ocean, an ornateness and heaviness expose Madaila's complexity and depth. Tight arrangements and multi-instrumental performances showcase musical minds at work.

When Madaila is on stage, spontaneous expression and contagious melody coexist. The freakier elements of the band come to the surface as the five-piece explores the deeper possibilities lying within their concise-recorded material. The band's improvisational power gives each song the cacacity to have its form pushed to the edges of comfort, or uplifting peaks.

Madaila released its debut, "The Dance", in 2015. The band generated buzz with large hometown shows held on a ferry, in Burlington's City Hall, and in an aquarium. Madaila has shared the stage with artists such as BØRNS, Mac DeMarco, Grace Potter, Big Gigantic, Delicate Steve, Deer Tick, Matisyahu, Twiddle and Rubblebucket; and played at festivals such as Mountain Jam, Frendly Gathering, Grand Point North, Waking Windows, Otis Mountain & Burlington Discover Jazz. Madaila is part of Future Fields, an artist-run label and management group based in Burlington, Vermont that includes Kelly Ravin, Iron Eyes Cody, & The Precepts.
Lola Rising
Lola Rising
Lola Rising is a Colorado-based Indie Folk Island Rock Band comprising of Denver natives Paul Medina Guevara (lead vocals, guitar, ukulele), Woody Roberts (bass guitar, keys, vocals), Kevin Eady (electric guitar, vocals, ukulele), Matt Fink (drums, vocals, percussion), Sarah Joelle Hoffenberg (vocals, keys and percussion), and Joe Z (trumpet).

Inspired from a song Paul once wrote about the passing of his `Lola` (means Grandmother in Filipino), coupled with `Rising` evokes images of spirituality and embraces the human condition. Their dance-able rhythms, honest poetry, and smooth melodic multi-part harmonies makes their music familiar, fun, accessible, vivid, and thought-provoking.

In late 2013, Paul returned from an eight year stint in Japan and joined forces with life-long friends Kevin, Woody (formerly played in the Denver-based reggae/rock band Optimal Frequency), Matt (formerly of the Flash Mob), Sarah (trained Jazz vocalist), and Joe Z (also of Zagriculture).

From the depths of musty parking garages & gangsters in the Tokyo underworld; to fly-fishing the Animas River & crossing the Great Divide, everything inspires us; Lola is on the Rise.
